How Brother Brother Sister Sister is organized

Brother Brother Sister Sister is registered in the state of Texas as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. Strategic direction for the corporation is provided by its board of directors in keeping with Texas State statutes. In addition to the expertise of its directors, the board's decisions are informed with the crucial input of our board of advisors. Corporate management, leadership and responsibility for executing the board of directors' strategies are vested in our executive director.

To guarantee to our donors their contributions will be used consistently with our mission, and that our financial affairs will be entirely transparent, Brother Brother Sister Sister has contracted to be a special fund under the financial administration of the Austin Community Foundation. The Austin Community Foundation has been in operation for more than 27 years; manages more than $70 million in assets; and is widely recognized as having a pristine reputation for fiscal responsibility and integrity. Because we are a fund under the Austin Community Foundation, donations to us are tax deductible. As noted below, due to the IRS’ recent ruling that Brother Brother Sister Sister is exempt from federal income taxes, donations to us are now tax deductible independent of our relationship with ACF..

In late April 2005, Brother Brother Sister Sister applied to the Internal Revenue Service for recognition of our status as a charitable, tax-exempt organization 501(c)(3). The IRS marked our file as “Received” on July 14, 2005. We received a letter dated July 22, 2005 from the IRS confirming their receipt of our application for recognition. Due to a large back-log of requests, as of Dec. 30, 2005, our application had not been processed and was not yet scheduled for examination. Due to the catastrophic impact on millions of people's lives of natural disasters (drought, lack of food and the HIV/AIDS pandemic) in Zimbabwe, on February 24, 2006 we requested expedite status for our application. On April 13, 2006 the Internal Revenue Service ruled that Brother Brother Sister Sister is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
